Florence Knoll relax three seat sofa

Designed in 1954 Florence Knoll, the relax sofa draws on the principles of modern architecture. It is simple, yet not plain, with a notably slender steel frame and quilted seat and back cushions.

Inspired by the modern offices of America's new skyscrapers, Florence Knoll created her lounge collection to translate the modern vocabulary of the exterior to the spaces inside. Her designs, which were architectural in foundation rather than sculptural, scaled down the rhythm and details of modern architecture, while humanising them through colour and texture.

The KnollStudio logo and Florence Knoll signature are stamped into the base of the frame.

Materials
Frame: Metal structure embedded in polyurethane foam. Exposed metal frame and legs. Heavy gauge tubular steel in polished chrome and painted finish. Upholstery: Seat suspension with variable density foam. Seat and back cushions with variable density foam welted and button tufted. Seat and back cushions are covered with polyester fiberfills to enhance comfort. They are 'quilted' with buttons for the version in leather and without buttons for the upholstered version with fabrics.
