Little Petra VB1 lounge chair

Originally introduced in 1938, the Little Petra lounge chair by Viggo Boesen quickly gained recognition at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition, later receiving awards in New York and Berlin. A defining piece of Danish funkis style, the design is characterised by its soft, organic form and inviting proportions.

Compact yet comfortable, Little Petra sits low to the ground with an open, embracing shape that encourages a variety of relaxed seating positions. A pioneer of his time, Viggo Boesen brought a new perspective to Danish design and architecture throughout the 1930s. His work was closely associated with the Scandinavian “Funkis” style, a Nordic interpretation of Art Deco, characterised by soft, organic forms and expressive silhouettes.

Boesen’s designs challenged the stricter functionalism of the period, introducing a more relaxed, human-centred approach that emphasised comfort and warmth. His distinctive aesthetic remains an important reference within Danish design history.
